Marport and IMDG Code

The task of IMO (International Maritime Organization) is to take account of government cooperation in all matters related to maritime transport, in ensuring the safety of maritime transport and marine vehicles (ships, etc.), as well as to create the highest standard for the protection of the marine environment with international agreements and regulations. The purpose of the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) Code published by IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) is to facilitate free and unrestricted movements of dangerous goods, while ensuring safe transportation of these cargoes and hence prevent environmental pollution. The handling, transportation, storage and stacking of dangerous goods at our port are carried out in accordance with IMO recommendations/directives supported by National and International legislation.

What are Dangerous Goods and How Do We Stack Them in Our Port?

Dangerous Goods are substances and objects which endanger the health and life of people, other living things and the environment due to their natural characteristics or their conditions during transportation, and pose a risk for important cargoes. The IMDG Code divides these objects and substances into 9 main classes. Generally speaking, Class 1 (explosives) and Class 7 (radioactive materials) are not transported in the Altas Ambarli Ports area and Class 2.1 (flammable gases) are handled as sousplan. Since the majority of the loads in the IMDG Code show a chemical reaction when they come into contact with other substances, they are subject to a certain distinction in handling and stacking.

Training of Personnel Working with Hazardous Substances

The implementation of the rules in operations related to dangerous goods depends on the fact that all relevant personnel anticipate the existing risks and understand the rules in detail.  This is only possible with the full training of personnel on the subject. “General awareness”, “Mission-Oriented” and “Safety” trainings in Section 1.3.1 of the IMDG Code book are regularly provided to our personnel by the trainers in our port.
