ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

INTRODUCTION
Marport Port Management was inspected by TSE within the scope of the “Green Harbor Project” organized by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and became the first certified green port of Turkey.
Within the scope of management systems, we implemented the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System in an integrated manner in 2007, and we ensure continuous improvement through periodic audits conducted every year.

WASTE MANAGEMENT and ZERO WASTE
A three-year “Industrial Waste Management Plan” has been prepared for all types of waste generated within the borders of Marport Port and has been approved by the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
Within the scope of the Zero Waste Regulation, the integration was completed and the Zero Waste Certificate was obtained. With the Zero Waste approach, recyclable wastes are collected separately from other wastes and then recycled by licensed companies.

Waste from ships is collected by ISTAC, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT
With the wastewater treatment plants established within the borders of Marport, domestic and industrial wastewater are treated in accordance with the standards specified in the regulations and transferred to the receiving environment. Periodic maintenance of the treatment plants is carried out by professional teams and the effluent is constantly monitored. The effluent analyses are carried out periodically by accredited laboratories authorized by the Ministry.  Sustainability is ensured by returning treated water to the receiving environment.

NATURAL RESOURCE CONSUMPTIONS AND ENERGY
Consumption of natural resources is constantly monitored and efforts are made to reduce this consumption.
Within the scope of the “Prime Route & Expert Decking” project, the fuel consumption and emissions of off-road vehicles decreased by 26% thanks to the optimization of transfer vehicles' in-port movements.
Zone-based LED conversion is being implemented in port lighting systems.
As per the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, a feasibility study was carried out on the Solar Power Generation Plant, following which the plant was included in our near-future plans.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND CARBON EMISSIONS
In line with its sustainable service approach, Marport Terminal Operators spends efforts to determine its role in climate change and to reduce carbon emissions. It develops various projects in order to reduce the effect of greenhouse gases. In this context, an ISO 14064-1 Greenhouse Gas Management System was established and is annually licensed by the verifier institution.

FIGHTING MARINE POLLUTION
One of the most important areas of environmental protection in ports is the sea.  A Coastal Emergency Response Plan was prepared to combat marine pollution, and a contract was signed with a company authorized by the Ministry in order to respond quickly to pollution in an emergency. Drills are carried out regularly to increase the response capability. Emergency response equipment is available 24/7 in designated areas within the port.

GREEN PORT

What is Green Port?
These are the ports that take the following factors into consideration while continuing their activities and take the steps which are required in the field of sustainability.

Marport and Green Harbor Cruise
Based on the e-mail and notification on the subject of "Green Port Project and application conditions" conveyed to us by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Maritime on 22 October 2012, the file prepared in accordance with the conditions required for the application was submitted to the Ministry in a very short time of only 1 week.
Green Harbor Preparation in Marport
Marport took its first steps towards becoming a green port with the establishment of the HSE department in 2005. Among the duties and powers of the department were the implementation of national and international legislation within Marport and the execution of feasibility studies in our port of innovative, environmentally friendly practices on a voluntary basis. Moving rapidly in this direction, Marport
