WORKER HEALTH AND SAFETY IN MARPORT

At Marport Liman Isletmeleri San. ve Tic. A.S., we carry out our practices in line with the "Occupational Health and Safety, first" motto.

We continue our activities with the goal of "Zero Occupational Accident" by constantly improving our inherent culture of occupational health and safety, taking necessary actions regarding risk assessment and risk level reduction activities in line with international and national legislation, and adopting good practice examples as reference.

WORK SAFETY PRACTICES

Risk Assessments

Risk analyses were prepared using the Fine Kinney method, taking into account all the processes carried out within Marport, and ensuring the full participation of the relevant personnel, in a way that fulfills all the conditions specified in the Risk Assessment Regulation. In addition, risk assessment is conducted separately in temporary works or outsourced to an external company.

Occupational Health and Safety Committees

An OHS Committee was established in Marport Terminal Operators by the employer's representative, workplace doctor, occupational safety specialist, human resources manager, employee representatives and technical and administrative personnel in line with the agenda as stipulated by the law. The OHS Board convenes at intervals specified in the legislation, and makes decisions regarding solutions in the OHS agenda, as well as existing issues and newly added issues.

Trainings

Law No. 6331 stipulates that all employees must be provided with basic OHS training, as well as any additional training according to the characteristics of their work. While OHS trainings are given to all newly recruited personnel, additional trainings are given to personnel whose duties have changed, and as required by their new job. Vocational training was also stipulated for technical personnel, and the personnel working in these jobs were given vocational training at authorized institutions. Apart from emergency training, first aid training and legislation, additional trainings deemed necessary by Marport are given to the relevant personnel.

Environmental measurements

Environmental measurements are made periodically in all facilities and necessary measures are taken in cases where non-compliance is detected, in efforts to account for the risk of workplace conditions affecting worker health. Air quality, dust, chemical substance, temperature, lighting and noise levels, which are among these measurements, are regularly monitored and reported according to the characteristics of the workplaces.

Construction machinery checks

Periodic controls of all construction equipment used in workplaces are carried out by competent organizations every 6 months beyond the annual period determined in the legislation and are constantly monitored.

Monitoring of subcontractors

Law No. 6331 also obliges the top employer to monitor the compliance of sub-employers with OHS rules. For this reason, the work of all subcontractors serving Marport is monitored. For this purpose, OHS provisions have been included in the contracts made with subcontractors, and the subcontractors are inspected on these issues before they start to work and they are given training on work and workplace.

Emergency action plan: Emergency action plans required to prevent damage in emergencies such as fire and earthquake have been prepared in accordance with the structure of the business and/or workplace. Search, rescue, evacuation and fire response teams have been formed, and the necessary theoretical and practical training has been given to all personnel by experts. These trainings are organized at regular intervals to ensure that the personnel are ready for duty. Evacuation drills, which are mandatory to be held at certain intervals, are carried out at specified dates.

WORKER HEALTH PRACTICES

Joint Health Unit (JHU)

There is a joint health unit operating 24/7 in Marport Terminal Operators. In the joint health unit, 1 full-time workplace doctor, 1 part-time workplace doctor, 1 workplace nurse, 3 health workers and 1 patient transport vehicle provide services. Health follow-ups of our employees and permanent subcontractors are carried out by the JHU, and the JHU possesses the ability to respond quickly in possible emergencies with its competent personnel and full equipment.

Recruitment and periodic health checks

Personnel who have just started to work have the necessary examinations done in an authorized health institution in accordance with the nature of the job they will work. Evaluation and approval of the test results are done by the workplace doctor. If the persons who have undergone the recruitment examination are found suitable to work in the workplace, they are directed to the human resources department for other procedures. Periodic health checks of the working personnel are followed by the workplace doctor at certain periods.  Apart from this, examinations such as eyes and teeth are also performed by the health institution under the supervision of the JHU.

Preventive Medicine and Polyclinic Service

Our workplace physicians provide preventive medicine and polyclinic services during the rest of their work within their main job descriptions. In this context, necessary vaccines and additional vaccines suitable for risk are given to risky personnel. Depending on the nature of the job, trainings on spine health, ergonomics, healthy nutrition and obesity are organized in different business lines.

Hygiene Checks

The checks regarding whether our sub-employers providing food and cleaning services give hygiene training to all their personnel are carried out by the workplace doctor. Inspections in food production/consumption areas and cleaning personnel work areas are carried out by the HSE Department, with or without notice.

First Aid Trainings

In accordance with the Law No. 6331, varying numbers of personnel, depending on the degree of danger of the work performed, must receive first aid training and these personnel must be defined as first aid workers in the workplace. A suitable number of employees were given theoretical and practical training by authorized institutions, and the trainees took the exam and received their certificates. Renewal trainings are given to first aid personnel whose certificates have expired, and the validity period of their certificates is extended.
